Tomorrow is Independence Day...

How will You celebrate, when your freedoms are being taken away?

This week has been rough.
Since the debacle that was billed as a debate last Wednesday, the persistent drone about the President's age and ability has crescendoed. Long time allies and supporters have joined the detractors in a loud chorus of "Open Convention". For our part (for what it's worth), the RAD Board of Directors supports the President. It is his decision if he believes the country could be better served by his stepping aside, but as long as he and Vice President Harris are at the top of the ticket, RAD remains a full-throated supporter of their candidacies. We have complete confidence that our democracy will be defended and the rule of law will be upheld by this administration and team.

This week has also seen the overturning of basic tenets this country has held since its founding. The partisan Supreme Court has sided with the Republican wish list and the felonious ex-President to say that the experts and professionals at our regulatory agencies are unprotected and subject to partisan legislators, that bribery is acceptable, and that Presidents (one in particular) are granted  immunity for any "official act". And what falls under that category is determined by the courts, ultimately, up to SCOTUS. How do you think that's going to go?

All this and so much more is on the line. We CANNOT allow Trump to get near the White House again. But beyond that, we must work all the harder to elect and re-elect our local candidates. Voters who are ambivalent or hostile to the top of the ticket likely won't get to the polls to vote for our state candidates. This makes it imperative that we a) stop trash talking the top of the ticket, and b) lean hard into support of our state and local candidates.

First, we have the opportunity to flip two Republican-held seats in the Richardson area:  Congressional District 24 - Sam Eppler and House District 112 - Averie Bishop. Both these candidates are young and brilliant and absolutely the best we could hope for.

We ALSO have to hold the seats that are being challenged: House District 70 - Rep. Mihaela Plesa is being challenged and she is working like hell to stay in the House. The 5th District Court of Appeals  is also at risk. We have a big majority on that court right now, but we are in danger of losing some seats that we cannot afford to lose!

Finally, State Board of Education Place 12 - George King is the most highly qualified candidate to run for this seat ever! This is a HUGEly important race! But if we don't get ourselves straight and on board, we stand to lose these amazing opportunities to hold and flip critical seats.

Thursday, the 18th, we'll be back at Four Bullets Brewery!  To celebrate our country's Independence, we'll be focusing on the right to vote. We'll have some great speakers who will talk about various aspects of the voting franchise and we will start signing people up who want to commit to working at the polls this fall! We have work to do, so let's get started!! Join us by registering for the event!

RAD - we have only 3.5 months till early voting starts. I hope you are ready to do all you can, as an individual and as a part of our community, to make sure we've left nothing on the table. It's going to require everything we have got. Thank you for joining us - Let's Do This.

SEE YOU SOON~
