Bruised But Not Beaten
It Has Been A Week...
There's a quote attributed to various people but I'll leave it as anonymous, that seems appropriate to this time and the prospect of the next few years... "In our darkest moments, we don’t need solutions or advice. We simply crave the warmth of human connection. A gentle touch, a silent presence – these are the anchors that ground us when life’s storms rage." I've spent time this week listening to our community more than talking. It's been interesting and encouraging to hear the ideas and thoughts that folks have shared. I don't have any sage advice... I've been waiting for the inspiration to hit me, but although I've seen some glimmers, the week has been tough and I, like many of you, am just trying to deal with the grief, anger and disappointment. But I am thankful that I'm a part of this community and I'm so glad you are a part of it, too.
We have some preliminary ideas that we've started putting together for ways that we can engage in activities to make some small difference.
First, we have a Pre-Holiday get together next Thursday, the 21st, at Four Bullets Brewery. We have no agenda other than to gather. Please join us.
Then, Dec 7th, we will be walking in the Richardson Holiday Parade. The theme this year is Holidays Around the World and it will be on the east side. We've decided that we will not do a float, but instead just walk as a RAD group of folks dressed in whatever represents the theme to each of you, carrying the RAD banner. Click here to register!
Looking out further, beyond the holidays, we've put together some ideas and would love feedback from you.
Put together an Austin bus trip to show up as a group for the first day of the Texas Legislature's session on January 14th.
Plan something to commemorate Martin Luther King Day - either in collaboration with close clubs or something specifically for Richardson
Create a regular monthly meeting for folks to write letters to our legislators about issues and bills they are considering.
Create a culture of "citizen lobbyists".
Create "small groups" that would focus on their own neighborhoods in conjunction with their precinct chairs
Plan more FUN events and outings! A hike with Amy Martin of Wild DFW? Bowling night? Movie Night? What else?!
These are things that will keep us engaged and productive, growing and educating our community. We would love to hear from you on which of these activities you would like to participate in or lead as well as any other ideas you have for us!
Wherever you are, however you're feeling, we're here to support you.
