Action is STILL the Antidote to Despair.

Take care of yourself & others...

Joan Baez said "Action is the antidote to despair." Her (dirge-y) song from the 60's - We Shall Overcome - reminds us that we've been through bad times before and we've overcome. Together. But we also have to recognize that we've been through a harrowing election with an unhealthy amount of negativism and outrage and we are worn out. So today, the action I'm going to suggest is simply to find your people and be with them. Try to find other things to focus on besides what we've been through and what we fear is coming. We risk losing real life if we stay in the past or worry about the future. Today is the only real moment, and for what it's worth, it's a pretty beautiful fall day.

We have our Happy-ish Hour get-together this Thursday, the 21st, at Four Bullets Brewery. Other than to bring toys and toiletries for donation to the Network of Community Ministries holiday drive, our only agenda is to gather. Please join us.

On November 29th, we've got a limited number of slots still available for the RAD Post Thanksgiving Hike at Spring Creek Forest Preserve! Amy Martin of Wild DFW is going to guide us to spend a few hours in nature! We'll meet at 10:00 and finish by 2:00. Register for all the details! This will be a special day and I hope you can make it!

Then, Dec 7th, we will be walking in the Richardson Holiday Parade. The theme this year is Holidays Around the World and it will be on the east side. We've decided that we will not do a float, but instead just walk as a RAD group of folks dressed in whatever represents the theme to each of you, carrying the RAD banner. Click here to register!

Directly after the parade, we'll head to Crossbar Richardson for a Holiday Brunch! Join us even if you can't walk in the parade! We'll have mimosas and pastries and just have a fun time celebrating the holiday season.

Looking further out, we're planning the January 20 2025 MLK RAD Community Day of Action! We're looking for our RAD Volunteers who want to Do Something like lend a hand to Network of Community Ministries, help the City of Richardson with a Clean-Up activity, or partner with another group to make a lasting impact on our neighborhoods. If you have ideas of ways we can help or want to volunteer, sign up here!

We plan to make it hard to NOT get involved and stay ACTIVE!  There's something for everyone. We intend to find even more ways to be active and engaged with each other - ways to make a positive impact on our community and the world.
