The Right to Live Free of the Fear of Gun Violence
In August, our focus is GUNS...
THAT took a dark turn, didn't it? We'd planned out this year to focus each month on a different issue that is important to Democrats, and August was to be the "back to school" month, when we'd focus on the Right to a Quality Public Education. But the speaker we wanted was available in September (see below for details on upcoming rally featuring Representative James Talarico) so we moved the gun safety month to August. Then, the month started off with a bang of excitement and joy, and we decided to let ourselves bask in the top-of-the-ticket happiness for a few weeks. Now, with our kids heading back into the classroom, back to active shooter drills, it seems an appropriate time to talk about the right to live free from the fear of gun violence.
We'll be hosting State Senator Roland Gutierrez tomorrow evening at our August Happy Hour!! We are focusing on our right to live free from gun violence and are honored to welcome one of the most vocal gun safety advocates in the state. Please RSVP for August 15th at Four Bullets - 6:30-8:30! Unless there are too many people, if it's too hot to be outside, we'll be inside at Four Bullets Brewery. If you can't make it, we will be live-streaming on YouTube! . Please plan to join us! Also ~ We will have LOTS of YARD SIGNS available!
POSTCARDS HAVE ARRIVED!! We have raised $1225 of the $4300 we need to get them mailed out. We are asking for donations to pay for postage! We'll also need help with making packets, writing the message on the back, and managing distribution/collection! First, though, let's get this project paid for! We will have them available at the next postcard party at Brass Tap on Arapaho, where this past Wednesday, they wrote 300 cards for Averie! We'll add our cards to the party on Sept 21, so sign up! It was a lot of fun and starting Sept 4, they'll be there every week! Sign up for details!
And our local candidates still need our support! Representative Mihaela Plesa is in one of the most competitive races in the state in HD70. Averie Bishop for HD112, Sam Eppler for CD24 and George King for the State Board of Education District 12 all need your monetary and boots-on-ground support! (Lots of links! In September, Rep James Talarico, former teacher and current social media phenom, will headline our Rally for Quality Public Education! This event is going to be a shared event with several other area clubs, and we are so thankful to be collaborating with the award winning Student Government Association Dallas College Richland Branch! We plan to fill a 450-seat auditorium at their Fannin Hall on Sept 21, from 3-5! Register here for details!
One more thing... unless you've been living under a rock, you've seen the dozens of "(fill in the blank) For Kamala" events. I'm excited to share with you that our own Jenna Royal hosted a Women Lawyers for Harris event and not only raised over $100k, but signed up hundreds of lawyers to volunteer for voter protection across the country!! They're continuing to raise money and sign up volunteers and you don't have to be an attorney to participate! You can find out all the information or replay the event here!
