Saturday's Elections Went OUR Way!!
Dear Fellow Democrat,
For the last two months I've been encouraging you to help get out the vote for Nazlee for RISD Trustee and Saturday night we saw the fruits of all the labor that went into that campaign! She defeated the "True Texas Project" candidate by 63% to 30%!! Trustee Eric Eager defeated his opponent (promoted by the same "christian" nationalist organization) by about the same margin. So THANK YOU to everyone who block walked, lit dropped, called, texted, put a sign in your yard, and VOTED!!
And there's MORE - What happened in RISD was echoed around the state! The much-discussed Grapevine Colleyville ISD lost three of their extremist incumbents! Bedford City Council elected a progressive! And in another special election in Jefferson County, State Senate District 4 flipped by 45 points!! It was a trump +11 in 2024 and swung to the Democrat +34! So we have another Democrat in our State Senate! That wind at our back is starting to lift me off my feet... or maybe that's hopeful JOY.
But WE CANNOT ASSUME ANYTHING!! We have to keep on working, keep building this movement until we actually ARE INVINCIBLE. I'll remind you, we had an enormous turnout for the Democratic Primaries in March. In Richardson, 3500 of the 8000 folks who voted in that Primary Election had never voted in a Primary before. As I've mentioned before, that gives us DATA... now we know that many more neighbors who are open to voting for Democrats. We want to encourage them to stay informed, get engaged and not only keep voting, but help us get out more voters! We have 8000 door hangers that welcome these voters to Join RAD that we need to get on the doors! We need an ARMY of volunteers to get these out the weekend of the 16th (look for your mobilize invite soon!) THIS weekend (May 9) we are going to need volunteers to show up to count out the flyers into packets for delivery! Sign up here to help us prepare packages!
The first order of business (now that our school district is in good hands!) is to get out the vote for the Primary Runoff Election that's coming up May 26th! Early voting is short with NO Weekend voting scheduled. Early Voting is the 18th - 22nd and then Election Day is the day after Memorial Day. If you need to vote by mail, get that application in! If you need help with whom to vote for, RAD has endorsed these candidates.
Our next Happy Hour will be May 21st and it will be focused on Military Appreciation as we go into the Memorial Day Weekend. We have several candidates right here in the Richardson area who are military veterans, and we've asked them to come talk with us about their reasons for running. From Congressional candidates Evan Hunt for CD3 and Kevin Burge for CD24 to State Senate candidate Keenen Colbert for SD2 and Zach Herbert for House District 112 (the MOST-likely-to-flip district in the STATE!), we are honored to have them join us. We'll also hear from Kate Rumsey of Mission: Texas Podcast, as well as Frederick (Nic) Nickens, the Chair of the Texas Democratic Veterans. Kate and Nic are both Veterans themselves, and they are continuing to serve our country by helping elect Democrats across the state! As usual, we continue to show up weekly, ROARing on the bridge and with our signs! We are now EIGHT months into our weekly protests, and they continue to be a fun and effective way to inspire others and to lift our spirits in community. You can join the ROAR Bridge Brigade on Thursday evenings from 4-6 and Saturday mornings from 9-10 on the Collins Blvd Bridge over I-75 (park at Cafe Max on the east side and walk up!). They are always happy to have more hands to hold the banners and flags and wave at the honking cars on Central! We also meet every Saturday morning from 10-11 on the southeast corner of Campbell & 75 to let our community know that there is a resistance in Richardson! Join Us!
We have SIX months till the Midterms. The oligarchs are worried, and they should be! But it will take all of us doing all the things to get over the finish line in such convincing numbers (see the recent election in Hungary!) that they cannot cheat their way out. SIX MONTHS. Let's Do This.
