Local, LOcal, LOCAL!!!
"These are the times that try men's souls..."
Dear Fellow Democrat,
That is the opening line of Thomas Paine's 1776 essay, The American Crisis. I cannot think of a time in my not insubstantial lifetime when this line was more appropriate. I admit that for the first time, I did not celebrate Independence Day, and I know that for many Americans, this was not a first. The spectacle that was made at the Capital was mortifying. The divisiveness in our country is heartbreaking. It's an American Crisis if there ever was one.
If national politics was all there was, I'm afraid I might despair. The Platners and the Epsteins and the BREAKING NEWS just gut me daily and I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one struggling. But as loud and dark and chaotic as all that is, there's precious little we can do about it, so it just gets us down. But when we look to our local candidates, we can absolutely make a difference!! And we have fantastic local candidates!!
Our local legislative candidates are an embarrassment of riches!! Dan Barrios for CD32! Keenen Colbert for SD2! Representative Mihaela Plesa for HD70! Representative Ana-Maria Rodriquez-Ramos for HD102! Zach Herbert for HD112! Orlando Lopez for HD33! EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THEM needs and deserves your thanks, your support and your participation! This weekend you'll find each of them out block walking!
Orlando Lopez will be at Custer Park tomorrow morning between 9-11 and will block walk in Canyon Creek! JOIN HIM!
Zach Herbert will be at One Eleven Ranch Park Sunday afternoon for Scoops with Zach! Bring your friends!! And next weekend is YELLOW DOG DAY WITH ZACH!
Mihaela Plesa has already knocked on 2000 doors! She'll be walking and knocking again tomorrow morning! JOIN HER!!
Dan Barrios will be at Russo's Italian Kitchen tomorrow at 11:00 (after the protest below!) to launch his Richardson block walk! JOIN HIM!!
Keenen Colbert has an upcoming meet and greet on July 23rd at Guitars and Growlers! Please RSVP for details and plan to be there!!
There is plenty of positive energy to go around with these candidates! They are in it to WIN it! GET INVOLVED!!
Next week, our RAD Happy Hour is focused on Judicial Candidates! We know that without Justice, there is no Liberty. We see this from SCOTUS to our own Texas Supreme Court on down to local. Last cycle we lost many critical judicial races and this year we have to take them back! We are honored to welcome Holly Taylor, Candidate for Court of Criminal Appeals, to headline our substantial roster of justices and judges. Please join us to hear from many accomplished candidates and find out why it's so important to vote all the way down the ballot!! REGISTER AND JOIN US!!
As usual, we continue to show up weekly, ROARing with our signs! We meet every Saturday morning from 10-11 on the southeast corner of Campbell & 75 to let our community know that there is a resistance in Richardson! Join Us!
I FEEL BETTER ALREADY! And I hope you do too. Make plans for how you can get to know and help elect our outstanding candidates. With less than four months till Election Day, we have no time for overwhelm. Stay focused and take it day by day, doing what you can where you are. Thank you for all you do.
~ See You Soon ~
