Feelin' Hot, HOt, HOT!!

Today the temperature in Richardson will reach 101 degrees...

Dear Fellow Democrat,

August is the hottest month of the year in North Texas. This year we are feeling the pinch of the high cost of staying cool more than ever. In the last 10 years, electric rates have increased almost 50%. In the last 30 years of Republican dominance of government in Texas, rates have more than doubled. Of course there are various factors that contribute to those increases, but how the government handles those factors and who benefits vs who pays is directly attributable to the political powers that be.

This November, in less than 100 days, we can change that. We have a statewide slate that is unparalleled, we have a deeply unpopular incumbent party, and we have a full ballot locally. Voters are hopefully waking up and looking for change. What are you going to do to help bring about that change? We have lots of opportunities!

Our local candidates are always looking for help! Dan Barrios for CD32! Keenen Colbert for SD2! Representative Mihaela Plesa for HD70! Representative Ana-Maria Rodriquez-Ramos for HD102! Zach Herbert for HD112! Orlando Lopez for HD33!  EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THEM needs and deserves your thanks, your support and your participation! Get in touch with their team and find out how you can help!
Zach Herbert will be cooking breakfast tacos this Saturday at 9:30 at Mimosa Park with Andrew Sommerman (for County Commissioner!) and you can pick up a turf to block walk!  JOIN HIM!
Dan Barrios will be at Panera Bread tomorrow at 11:00 (after the protest below!) to launch his Richardson block walk! JOIN HIM!!
OR!!! YOU CAN PHONE BANK!! MAKE CALLS MONDAY!!

This month, the RAD Book Club is reading "Here Comes The Sun" by Bill McKibben. It's a really encouraging look at the incredible advances in solar energy. Although we hear daily how much more dire the climate change is than was predicted, there's amazing news about how fast the SOLAR industry is getting more affordable and available. I strongly recommend the book!!

Our upcoming Happy Hour will focus on Energy & Environment! We are so looking forward to hearing from our esteemed speakers. Jon Rosenthal for Railroad Commissioner and Clayton Tucker for Agriculture Commissioner will talk with us about how these critical offices impact your health and pocketbook. And we are going to hear from Evgenia Spears of the Sierra Club Lone Star Chapter. She is the water program coordinator and will talk with us about water issues in Texas, including legislative developments as well as potential solutions and their challenges (looking at you, desalination!). And I'm really looking forward to our nonprofit speaker, Kim Whelan, founder of NTx School Garden Network as our kids and teachers prepare to go back to school! It's going to be a great evening of inspiration and information - Please Join Us!

As usual, we continue to show up weekly, ROARing with our signs! We  meet every Saturday morning from 10-11 on the southeast corner of Campbell & 75 to let our community know that there is a resistance in Richardson! Join Us!

 ~ See You Soon ~
