Hispanic Heritage Month
This week we recognize Hispanic Heritage Month ~
Dear Fellow Democrat,
Did you know that over half (53%!) of school age children in Texas are Hispanic? Did you know that Texas was originally Tejas, a state in the northern part of Mexico? Tejanos and Hispanic Americans of all origin are a vibrant part of Texas and a vital voting populace who deserve acknowledgement and representation. Our featured speakers at last night's RAD Happy Hour were three local candidates. In addition, we heard from a Hispanic organization, La Colectiva, that helps immigrants at the ICE office in Dallas navigate that fraught visit. And we heard from Jasmin Flores, Texas Democratic Hispanic Caucus Co-Chair, about efforts their organization, Comunidad Primero, are making to get out the vote in the heavily Hispanic area of west Dallas. Each of our speakers represented the Hispanic community beautifully and I think we all walked away more educated and aware. You can watch the replay of our livestream here.
In Richardson, three of our six local candidates are Hispanic. Dan Barrios is running for to represent Richardson and parts of seven other counties in the U.S. Congress. (All of Richardson is in his District 32!) Orlando Lopez is running to flip the Collin County side of Richardson in State House District 33. And Representative Ana-Maria Rodriguez Ramos is running to hold her seat in House District 102. To celebrate and support them, RAD is donating every dollar that comes in between Thursday the 17th to Sunday the 20th to be split among the three of them. Each of these candidates is working hard to represent everyone and they deserve our support! We are (painfully!) aware that all of us are being called on constantly to donate, but please consider giving as generously as you can here.
There are only 31 days left till early voting starts! If you are thinking that it's time to get engaged, you're RIGHT! Our local candidate are Dan Barrios for CD32! Keenen Colbert for SD2! Representative Mihaela Plesa for HD70! Representative Ana-Maria Rodriquez-Ramos for HD102! Zach Herbert for HD112! Orlando Lopez for HD33! EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THEM needs and deserves your thanks, your support and your participation! Get in touch with their team and find out how you can help!
Zach Herbert will be meeting at Huffines Park this Saturday at 10 a.m. to launch his block walk, and at 3:00 on Sunday at Cottonwood Park for Scoops with Zach. Then they'll head out to knock on doors again at 4:00! This campaign has knocked on over 20,000 doors!! Get on the team and help push them over the finish line!
Dan Barrios Team will be at Panera Bread again tomorrow at 9:30 (staying till after the protest below!) to launch his Richardson block walk! JOIN THEM!!
We Need Lit Droppers! With just over a month till Early Voting begins, we are gearing up for HUGE Days of Action! In October, we will be putting slate cards on about 12,000 doors in Richardson. That will be between October 10-18th. Please put it on your calendar - we need YOU!!
As usual, we continue to show up weekly, ROARing with our signs! We meet every Saturday morning from 10-11 on the southeast corner of Campbell & 75 to let our community know that there is a resistance in Richardson! Join Us!
