REST ~
This week we've paid tribute to too many ...
Dear Fellow Democrat,
This morning we woke to news that Mike Rawlins passed last night. Mike served as the Democratic Party Chair in Collin County from 2014 through 2022. Mike personally lifted the party out of debt when he took the helm and he ran the organization always with an eye towards following governmental process. He cared deeply about electing Democrats and although he didn't live to see the county turn blue, in many ways he forwarded that mission. After being County Chair, he continued to serve at the state level as State Democratic Executive Committee representative for CD32. He had a ski accident a couple years ago and never fully recovered from that, but even as recently as this summer, he ran for re-election to that office, always willing to do his part to further the party platform and elect Democrats. Mike served to the end and now it is our job to continue that work.
Time... We often live as if we have an infinite amount of it. Whether it's our own life, or the lives of others around us, celebrities, communities across the globe, or the Earth itself... we take it for granted that things will keep on. We find out when someone passes how impactful their life was, how many ways they made a difference. But if I've become aware of anything this week, it is that there is no promise of any of it, and the best we can do is leave this place better than we found it. The world is literally burning, glaciers are melting, a critical and perhaps existential election begins in less than two months... What are WE doing to make a difference? We honor those who have no time left by using our time wisely.
